Era lives indoors, in debt before she was even born, and works every day in the Machine helping to supply a never ending war. In this world, even the information in a worker's head legally belongs to the Company, and is passed down when one reaches retirement. When it is Era's turn to inherit the memories of her Grandmother she finds more than just passwords and blueprints - she finds memories of the lives of those before her, including memories of the Outside. Will these new memories help Era understand what she is missing in her life?

A dystopian science fantasy novella 10+ years in the making
More than ten years ago, I was living in China, where there was an abundance of notebooks with random titles and art on the covers. I decided to write stories in these notebooks based on their covers … and only one stuck. For some reason I couldn’t move on from The Memory of Trees, and now, in 2024, the novella is finally finished.
